Welcome to the Baltimore Chapter of LAI

The Baltimore Chapter of Lambda Alpha International was formed in 1992. Its members - from business, academia and government - represent a wide range of professions dealing with some aspect of land economics. We are affiliated with Lambda Alpha International, a land economics society with chapters around the country and abroad.  The Baltimore Chapter typically meets at noon on the third Wednesday of the month for lunch, a speaker addressing a timely topic, and discussion. Chapter members attend free; guests are welcome. Meeting guest fee is $20.

Baltimore's Waterfront Partnership

Laurie Schwartz has spent over 30 years working on community and downtown development initiatives in Baltimore.  After several years as a Housing Department planner, Laurie was assigned by Mayor Schaefer to come up with ideas to revitalize Charles Street.  Out of that question came the creation of the Downtown Partnership for which Laurie served as President for over 15 years.  In 1999 she was named Deputy Mayor by Mayor O'Malley.  She recently served as an independent consultant and in 2012 assumed the full time position as Executive Director for one of her clients, the Waterfront Partnership of Baltimore.
